My Favorite Margarita
Sweetened only with fruit
By Heidi Williams
Happy Cinco de Mayo! How lucky are we that this Mexican holiday falls on Friday this year? If you’re contemplating staying home for a margarita instead of going out, here’s a recipe that is big on flavor, small on sugar and will make staying in still feel festive. The only sweetener in this margarita is fruit, and you can choose any flavor you want. It’s so simple I hardly dare to call it a recipe, but in the spirit of Cinco de Mayo and happy hours everywhere, here it is!
Ingredients (for one serving):
- 1/2 cup frozen fruit
- 2 ounces tequila
- 2 ounces coconut water (plain or flavored, you decide)
- about 1/2 cup ice
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. That’s it!
So simple, right? If you’re looking for a few other options that lean toward the natural/low sugar side, give these a try:

- Three-Ingredient All Natural Margarita via Averie Cooks
- Frozen Blueberry Margarita from Cookie + Kate
