When you move, Dietitians On Demand can move with you
One of the perks of a nationwide dietitian staffing company
Consultant work with Dietitians On Demand can be the perfect little “something extra” to help registered dietitians earn some extra money, supplement a private practice, or even make the transition to a new location while looking for a permanent position. For Nissa Fuller, MS, RD, LD, CLC, working for Dietitians On Demand meant she didn’t have to give up her career to drive cross country.
Nissa is a dietitian who has traveled, but she’s not a travel dietitian. Instead of following her work across the county, Nissa’s work followed her, through positions with Dietitians On Demand.
“Shortly after completing my dietetic internship, my husband was completing his time in service with the United States Marine Corps. We had big plans to sell our house [in California] and travel the country by RV. While we were arranging our trip, I wanted to keep active in dietetic practice but did not want to commit to full time or part time work, knowing that we’d be traveling. I had a preceptor tell me that one of her first jobs as a dietitian was through consulting work and recommended checking out DOD,” Nissa said.
How has DOD helped you at different points of your career? And locations?
When we eventually settled down in a new area after our travels, I was working full time, but wanted to pick up extra shifts for some additional spending money, networking opportunities, and to explore my options. My most recent assignment (in Annapolis, Maryland) led to a permanent placement and advancement in my career.
What is the best part about working for DOD?
I value the flexibility and the continuous opportunities to work as a dietitian in a variety of settings.
What types of opportunities did your experience with DOD offer you?
DOD has allowed me to become comfortable walking into new environments, working with different EHR systems, and seeing how different facilities work and flow throughout their daily functions.
What was your first assignment with DOD like compared to your second?
During both assignments I felt highly valued and respected by the facilities. I was much more confident in my practice during my second assignment, supported by more experience in the field and having been able to adapt to different environments.
What advice do you have for other dietitians considering consulting with DOD?
Go for it! Any and all experiences are good learning opportunities.
