Our history
2005
Dietitians On Demand is born in Richmond, VA! Alicia Davis, RD, a registered dietitian, recognized that a temporary nutrition consulting service was needed to provide staffing support for dietitians. From day one, Dietitians On Demand valued the work dietitians do and paid them competitively. Hourly rates consistently match (or exceed) the 75th percentile for the assignment’s location. Alicia and her husband, Ryan, still run the company today.
2007
The company came from a humble beginning, with Founder Alicia Davis, RD, working out of the spare bedroom of her family’s townhouse. This year, she expanded services to also hire dietitians in Maryland and D.C.
2013
With the support of Alicia’s husband, Ryan, Dietitians On Demand expanded again to offer dietitian staffing services nationwide. Always at the forefront of technology, the company conducts screening and onboarding virtually. The secret sauce to hiring amazing dietitians virtually? A dialed-in screening process customized by a dietitian, for dietitians.
2014
Dietitians On Demand first was named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. in 2014. The company continued to grow at a rapid pace and was again recognized by Inc. 5000 for exceptional growth in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2023.
2015
After honing their hiring practices, Dietitians On Demand again elevated the field of consultant dietetics by converting all their 1099 workers to W2 employees, and no longer hires 1099 for clinical roles. This switch is a significant tax benefit for employee dietitians, and an added insurance measure for clients.
2018
The company’s next move to elevate dietitians came in the form of continuing education. Free CPEU webinars were offered for employees, and because of their popularity, the company began developing practical CPEU products for ALL dietitians. As of today, most of these practice resources are free.
2020
Nobody puts the dietitian in the corner! At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dietitians On Demand highlighted under-recognized registered dietitians with a $38K Student Loan Payoff Contest. Winners were selected based on submitted stories highlighting their contributions during the pandemic. Chris Harrison was also recruited to give some extra love to RDs during the pandemic.
2023
Contract work got a little less intimidating. Dietitians On Demand began offering a full benefits package for any employee working 30 or more hours per week. Yes, this includes full medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with matching and paid sick leave.
2024
Diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all are important values at Dietitians On Demand. This year the company expanded its library of patient-friendly resources to include infographics in Spanish.
